Imprint
I stare at the portraits that have been taken of me. I look at my Identification Card, my passport, the pictures in there are said to be me. They are meant to be me. The general function of portraits are said to be an, “artistic representation of a person, in which the face and its expression is predominant. The intent is to display the likeness, personality, and even the mood of the person.”
As I ponder into the photographs of myself or others, I begin to question, how am I seeing myself and others? It is this personal history which leads to my interest in defining identity and ways of looking at how history informs identity. Hence the word imprint comes to mind, as all portraits should be invisibly marked with these meditations of identity.
